Most of the `old hands` who`ve been around forums for any length of time will be very familiar with the Search button, but some of the newbies might not be.
So, what is it for, and why do we always ask members to do a `search` before starting a new thread? The Search button is located towards the top of the forum, and can be seen on all pages (between New Posts and Quick Links.) Suppose you wanted to see if anything has been discussed about Sensa Trust for example. Click on the Search button, and a white box will appear. Type in the words Sensa Trust, or SensaTrust, or sensa trust etc, it doesn`t matter whether you use lower or upper case. You`ll then be taken to a fresh page which will list all threads with those words contained somewhere in that thread. In this particular example there are a handful of locations. Then all you need to do is click on the thread and you`ll be taken to it to read up on the words/phrase you`ve searched for. Sometimes you can enter just one of the words, so in this case you could just type sensa and you`ll then find a number of threads which contain sensa, including sensa trust. You need to be careful though, because if you choose a popular word which can be used in other contexts, in this case the word trust you`ll find yourself ploughing through around a dozen pages of threads all containing that word. One final word, if a phrase has a hyphen then it`s usually necessary to include it otherwise you might not get all the results you are after. |
